Faith and Fellowship for 2nd-12th Grade

Mondays 6:15-7:30p

Not all of us are called to be artists or athletes, musicians or A+ students, but we are all called to be friends. Friendship exists where there is love and affection and trust and encouragement. Friend 2 Friend takes the wisdom from the gospel, guided by the liturgical year, to teach the Christian understanding and values of friendship.

My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love you an have for your friends is to give your life for them. And you are my friends if you do what I command you.....I call you friends because I have told you everything I heard from my father. John 15:12

In these verses Jesus taught what he went on to model: true friendship requires sacrifice. There is much wisdom on friendship throughout the Bible, and the best wisdom comes from the gospels themselves. Look at your own friendships and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I take the initiative in my friendships?

  • Do I sacrifice in my friendships?

  • Do I appreciate my friends for what they are or what they give me?

  • Do I want close friends?

  • Do I have godly expectations for our friends?

  • Do I bear with my friends?

  • Do I turn to God for friendship?

Sacramental age youth 2nd-12th grade gather for 15 min of faith and fellowship then move to age-specific facilitator-led discussion groups. We’ll start the first eight weeks (9/18-11/13) with the Rescue Project (Elementary version for grades 2-5). Come listen to the story of human history, how death was destroyed and a friendship reunited. In the new liturgical year we will take the wisdom from the upcoming Sunday gospel and gain a greater understanding that Christians really ought to be best friends to others because we have been befriended by a Savior.
