I would like to be confirmed
Dear Young Person: We congratulate you on your heroic devotion to Jesus! Being a person of faith in our culture is an incredible challenge, but God will reward your faithfulness to Him.
At St. Nicholas, we follow the recommendation of the Archdiocese of Seattle, which outlines a two-year Confirmation program, following the academic calendar. The proximate period of formation is known as “Level 1 Confirmation Preparation” and is typically initiated in 9th grade. The immediate period of formation, known as “Level 2 Confirmation Preparation” begins after you have completed the proximate period.
Proximate Period: (Level 1 Confirmation Prep)
During this time, you will build community with your peers and deepen your understanding of the basic tenets of the Catholic faith through regular participation in Youth Group (Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM). Additional requirements include regular mass attendance, participation in four community service opportunities, (there will be several offerings through the year) and attendance at a Catholic youth conference or retreat (sponsored by St. Nicholas or approved by the youth minister).
Immediate Period: (Level 2 Confirmation Prep)
After you have completed your proximate formation period and as long as you will be 16 on the day of the next Confirmation celebration, you are prepared to enter your immediate Confirmation formation year. In addition to the requirements for the proximate year, you will participate in a more intensive series of instruction. You will attend our weekend Confirmation retreat (typically held in March) and sessions will be held once a month on Sunday’s from 3:00 PM - 7:30 PM. At the completion of this year, the bishop will lay hands on you and anoint you with the sacred chrism oil during a special Confirmation Mass.
