Sacramental Preparation: Reconciliation & Eucharist

2025-26

Our Catholic sacraments are celebrations that point to God’s work in our lives. For a baptized Catholic, Reconciliation absolves one from sin and is received in preparation for First Holy Communion.

A child is ready for sacramental preparation if:

• The child is baptized and at least 7 years old

• The child attends Sunday mass regularly as well as holy days of obligation

• Prayer is experienced in the home

• The child will be supported to attend all sessions

For St Nicholas School 2nd graders, sacramental preparation will be taught in the classroom in tandem with their age appropriate religious formation. Students who are not baptized will learn about the sacraments but are not being prepared to receive them. For families inquiring about becoming Catholic, contact the Formation Office at nina@stnicholascc.org.

For Parish families, sacramental preparation is part of our Families in Faith formation sessions held Saturdays, 3:30-4:45p, starting October 4, 2025. These sessions are held concurrently with Atrium: K-1, Friend to Friend 3-5th, Friend to Friend 6-12th, and Adult Formation - A Journey through the Catechism. Siblings are invited to register in a formation session for their age group. Parents of sacramental prep candidates are highly encouraged to participate with their child. Registration is required for both St Nicholas School 2nd graders and Parish Families.

Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.’ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.’
